After being in lockdown for 6 months the opportunity to go to Savanah with my people came up. Of course, I jumped at it. A long weekend away in a town I had never been to sounded fantastic.
Friday:
We left Augusta Friday afternoon. We arrived at the Marriott Fairfield around 5 pm. This was such a nice room, we splurged a bit on the suite so we would have plenty of room for all of us and in case we needed to get the wheelchair around the room. Once we got settled in and googled places to eat. We had not found anything that stuck out so we headed out looking for a good place to have dinner.
After about 30 minutes of walking around, we spotted Ruth’s Chris Steak House. We did not have a reservation when we got there but they were able to find us a table in the lounge not far from the door, which made getting to it with a wheelchair much easier. This place was not inexpensive, but we were on vacation and were willing to splurge on a nice dinner. After placing our orders they brought us some bread while we waited for our food and it was so good. After a while our meal came out, I got the ribeye and scalloped potatoes as my side. This was probably one of the best steaks I had ever had and it was so big I had leftovers.
After wrapping up there we started making our way back to the hotel, on the way we made it a point to pass by Lulu’s Chocolate Bar, we had seen it while googling restaurants earlier and knew that was going to be dessert. They were nice enough to put down a ramp so we could push the wheelchair to the display case where we each picked something to take with us. We had a brownie, cheesecake, their specialty strawberry cake with mascarpone (which I can’t think of the name of), and whatever my nephew got(lol brain fart). From there we made our way back to the hotel to rest, watch tv and eat dessert while figuring out what we wanted to do the next day.
Saturday:
We were up and ready to go pretty early so we started off by walking to McDonald’s for breakfast, the inside was open but not for eat-in, so we found some benches to eat at. We got lucky and the benches we were at were right next to a map of the area. We used that to find an elevator down to river street. We made our way to the elevator and down to river street. We spent the morning walking south 1st, stopping to look at a few shops and the outdoor market. While we were walking we passed by Spanky’s and decided we were going to have lunch there. Once we hit the end of the shops by Joes Crab shack we turned around and went north to the other side. We passed by/under the Hyatt, which was pretty cool. Looked at various restaurants and shops while we were going. We ended up going into Earthbound, which we have here in Augusta but this location has things ours didn’t which was cool. After that, we made our way back south to Spankys for lunch. I got chips and queso for the table and the Pizza Burger for my meal with spuds as my side. Everything was very good and I ended up with all the pickles at the table because nobody else wanted them there, score! After lunch we made our way back to the hotel to rest and because my friends had something they needed to do that afternoon/evening. While they were gone I relaxed in the room and watched Guys Grocery Games and Rampage on the TV. They returned with McDonald’s for dinner. After we ate we started on our way to the Walking Ghost Tour we had booked. It was a 10 PM tour but we wanted to make sure we found it alright. We got there a few minutes early and took advantage of a bench close by to rest before it started. While we waited it started drizzling/raining and rained on and off for the entire rest of the evening. The tour was great, we learned about a lot of History from the city, the squares and some of the buildings, like the Marshal house. By the end, we were soaked so we went directly back to the hotel to go to sleep.
Sunday:
Walking up and being an hour ahead due to the time zone change gave us plenty of time to rest. pack and get ready for our boat tour and brunch. After checking out of the hotel around 11 we packed up the car and drove over to river street to park as close to the boat as we could. We had about an hour’s wait as we were not able to board until noon. About 15 minutes before we were due to board the boat the sky got really dark and it started to pour down rain on us :(. While it was raining the ticket taker came down early to try to get us on the ship. He opened up an umbrella to sit under and attached it to the gate, shortly after a strong wind gust came and blew over the gate and umbrella, luckily away from anybody so nobody was hurt. I helped him pick the gate back up and he finally let us on the boat. We made our way on the boat and into the 1st-floor dining room for brunch. The staff did get us a couple of spare table cloths to try to dry off with. Being wet it was cold while we were eating. The spread was pretty good but mostly breakfast items and not really worth the amount spent on the ticket above the normal tour cost. The rain stopped while we were eating. Once we were done eating we made our way to the 3rd floor of the boat and out front so we could see where we were going when the tour started at 1. We started by going north on the Savanah river and then back south again down toward Fort Jackson. The tour guide did a great job of giving us information about the area and talked for almost the entire time. We got off the boat about 2:30 and made our way back to the car to head home. Overall it was a fantastic trip.
Sounds like a nice trip. I miss hanging out with friends and need to plan something like this.
Sounds like a great trip man! Sarah & I want to get back to Savannah, it’s been since before we were married.
